In New Zealand it can be difficult to get independent financial advice. Most financial advisors are selling you a product and are only really interested in advising you on that product. Alternatively they will offer to manage your financial resources for you for a percentage which works well if you have a very large portfolio. But if you are like many retired kiwi’s you have a home, maybe an investment property, your kiwi saver or the equivalent, some investments, fixed deposits and cash. You don’t need someone to manage it but you do need some good independent financial advice regarding your nest egg and ensuring that you are maximising your returns and have enough saved for the future. There are some useful rules of thumb such as the 4% rule or the investment buckets system. I will supply links on specific ideas and sites in future postings.
